Google Penguin 4.0: Google's Latest Core Algorithm Addition |
Posted: February 25, 2017 |
Google’s Penguin in the old daysPenguin is a filter Google has designed to capture spam sites that were not detected by Google's regular spam detection system. When it was launched in 2012, it functions periodically. This is good for keeping the bad spammy sites away from Google's search results. Once caught, these sites will remain penalized until the next time the filter operates, which unfortunately takes months, years even. In fact during the last Penguin update, Penguin 3.0, any site that was hit by the update waited for almost two years to be free! Delays no more!According to Google, these kinds of delays will no longer happen for Penguin 4.0. This latest (and final) release makes Penguin real-time. Which means while Google regularly crawls and recrawls, indexes and reindexes sites, Penguin will filter these sites as well. Thus, sites will no longer need to wait for months to be freed when they get penalized. Penguin will be catching spammy sites and freeing improved ones on a regular basis from now on. In addition, Google stated that further Penguin update announcements will be discontinued since it has now become real-time. As it continues to filter sites, it will also be continuously refreshed for updates. Penguin becomes page-specificGoogle has also announced that Penguin has now gone granular: Hold your horses though. This doesn’t mean Penguin is longer a sitewide penalty. Google clarifies that Penguin now affects finer glanularity, but it doesn’t mean it only affects pages. The extent of how pages and sites will be affected by the degree of spam signals Penguin receives stays with Google. When will Penguin 4.0 start rolling out?Although Google said, it's currently "rolling out,"there is no definitely timeline for when Penguin 4.0 will be fully rolled out (even Google themselves!) We suspect it won't take that long though. If Google regularly crawls your site, then you should see the changes faster than those whose sites are visited less often. Love some history? Here’s a recap of the update releases for Penguin since its introduction in 2012. Penguin Algorithm Update Release Timeline
